Alpha-Tech Fire Emergency Lighting

Buildings can be plunged into darkness if there is a power failure, which might be caused by the outbreak of fire or by other forms of power failure within the building. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires a secondary emergency lighting system to be installed to enable the building to meet fire safety legislation allowing people to find their way out of the building safely, which is why emergency lighting is used.

BS 5266 requires the provision of escape route lighting that indicate clearly and unambiguously the escape routes out of the building; provide illumination along such escape routes to allow safe movement towards and through the exits provided; ensure that fire alarm points and fire fighting equipment along the escape routes can be readily located; permit operations concerned with safety measures.

The emergency lighting that you provide in premise depends on the size of the building and the way the property is used. The Alpha-Tech Fire Risk Assessments will highlight your requirements, and Alpha-Tech Fire engineers will design your lighting system to the standard required by The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Once your emergency lighting system has been installed, we advise clients that all emergency lights need to be checked from time to time. For lights that are on all the time you should check that the unit is lit every time you use the building as part of the standard procedure when opening-up the building and a functional test for about 10 minutes every month. Alpha-Tech Fire can give advice on any test procedures required.
